Fitbit: App Enhancements

Getting there one sip at a time.

The Challenge:
Increase water logging and address low feature engagement

Water logging was a rather manual tedious and cumbersome experience across Fitbit’s iOS and Android app. The challenge was to design a solution that made keeping track of water consumption, simple, fast as well as motivating.

The Solution: Quick add functionality with delightful motivating messaging and micro interactions

Logging water is now easier than ever with a single tap away using the quick add functionality. Users are also now able to keep track of their progress in the daily log view with access to detailed logs.

My Role: Senior Visual Designer

Motivated to solve one of the biggest pain points in the water tracking feature, I dug deep into user research to gain an empathetic understanding. After several cycles of ideation, I proposed the idea of a quick add function as well as an improved daily log view featuring motivational messaging to encourage users to keep sipping until they met their daily water goal. In order to validate this proposal to key stakeholders, I proactively took the initiative of building a prototype and conducted informal user testing sessions. The feedback gathered from these sessions validated this proof of concept and ultimately green lit the development and successful launch of these feature improvements.
